Keeping track of film- a PWA story

Another personal app to fill a very specific niche.

The last few falls I've taken a week off in October to enjoy the colors and take some photos. This year a cold snap last week dropped most of the red foliage north of the city but we're enjoying the hikes none the less. Every year I struggle to keep track of which conservation area what roll of film was shot on, and sometimes even which camera I used, despite keeping scratch notes. Of course pi+qwen wiped me up a solution in the evening after a day of hiking, filmNotes!

Another PWA delivered over WireGuard and added as a home screen app. Keeping track of hikes with geo-location and some common sense logic around roll / location management. I also added some basic features around camera and lens inventorying, which will replace a Google Sheet I currently use for serial numbers and condition notes as well as which dry cabinet to find a particular camera in.

Building these personal apps has been so much fun. Some further tweaking to the Spark cluster with improved pi settings (0.6 temperature outperforms the pi default 1.0 for Qwen 3.8 Flash Next, 40k compaction buffer + 40k tokens kept) and we are really cooking! Happy hacking!
