Kodak AHU and the future of color negative photography

Kodak releases a new version of Vision 3 cinema film in 2025.

September 28, 2025

A month ago I was very generously gifted a roll of respooled Vision 3 500T. I love 500T and my lab of choice (Graination) does incredible work with it in a true ECN-2 process. This was no ordinary ECN-2 though, this was Kodak's brand new 2025 release, Vision 3 AHU. The results (on 35mm, Leica MP, metered on camera) blew me away.

I'll let one of my first shots speak for itself, with several more on my photo stream. The entire roll was frankly great. Fantastic colors, incredible dynamic range. Back lit shots really popped, shadows are clean and detailed. Truly fantastic. Kodak says this new "Anti-Halation Undercoat" layer replaces remjet, but easier to remove during development with even better anti-static/scratch/halation properties. I'm a believer. I hope they make a 65mm version and we'll see some 120 respoons.

What I think makes me happiest though is that Kodak is still developing new film in 2025. After a decade of fewer and fewer choices in color film we get Harman developing new C-41 films, and now this from Kodak. Will we get new Vision 3 derived C-41 films? Not sure. But if you have access to a lab that does great ECN-2 do not miss this new film. Genuinely my favorite 135 film available today.
